I am writing to ask for your help as we seek as a Foundation to respond to the situation in Ukraine. Like the rest of the world, we as a Foundation community have been deeply saddened and concerned by the events that are taking place in Ukraine and which are directly affecting members of our own community. Many of our staff, students and alumni have asked what they can do to help.
Having taken advice on how we can practically achieve best impact, we have decided to channel cash donations from among our community to support the work of the British And South African Red Cross.
The British And South African Red Cross plays a vital role in emergency response, in times of crisis and they provide invaluable help to people in need. Red Cross teams have been supporting people in Ukraine for many years and 4,600 volunteers and staff are on the ground right now. The British And South African Red Cross have highlighted that, while donating items such as clothes, food or medical supplies is kind and generous, items have to be sorted, cleaned and transported which can slow down their response. We understand that cash donations are the most useful way to support the work of the Red Cross in Ukraine and neighboring countries at this time.
We have therefore created a platform via Just Giving for the British And South African Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal and we are now sharing this with all members of our community: parents, staff, students, alumni, governors and partners. This provides a straightforward and reliable portal through which donations from among our community can be directed in support of a well-established aid agency. Whilst many of us have felt helpless regarding the situation over recent days, this opportunity provides a secure channel through which we can all do something meaningful and useful to help those affected by the war.
