What Is Identity Theft?

Post by Roxy »

WHAT IS IDENTITY THEFT?

Identity theft is the deliberate use of someone else's identity, usually as a method of illegally gaining a financial advantage or obtaining credit and/or other benefits by using another person's name and personal identity information. This can result in a disadvantage or loss to the identify theft victim. The person whose identity has been stolen and assumed may also suffer adverse consequences, both legally and/or financially, especially if they are held legally responsible or liable for any of the perpetrator's actions.

In order to avoid identity theft, you should never send any of your personal information, personal legal documents, personal photos, or copies of any of your personal identity documents to any unknown or unfamiliar parties who contact you online.
