What Are Diplomatic Agent & Airport Inspector Scams?

Post by Roxy »

Diplomatic agent and airport inspector scams involve people claiming to be diplomatic agents or airport freight inspectors who are either located at an airport or stationed close to an airport. The scam operates under the onus of there being a large consignment needing to be delivered to you, which consists of a large amount of cash. They will state that they will deliver all this money to you, but it requires an upfront delivery fee or some fees for insurance, storage, or whatever. The scammers will also claim that at the moment the cash is being stored in "Trunk Boxes", cases, or other types of consignment packaging in which it will be delivered.

During the course of the scam, the scammer may ask you to contact 2-3 different people that the scammer claims are also involved with the transaction as a psychological technique designed to make the transaction seem more legitimate. In most cases though you are dealing with only one scammer who is acting behind all of the various different personas being presented.

These scams are a form of what is known as Advance-Fee Fraud. Please click here to read more about the psychological techniques used to deceive people with Advance-Fee Fraud scams. The following article on Wikipedia also explains more about Advance-Fee Scams in general: Wikipedia Link
