Extortion scams involve threats blackmail which tell the recipient of the email that they must pay a certain amount of money by a certain date or suffer some terrible consequences if they don't pay the money to the scammer that is being requested. Payments are often asked to be made via Bitcoin to make them less traceable back to the scammer.
